Identical edition of a so-called litron cup, made in 1774 by the Manufacture de Sèvres for the personal use of Queen Marie-Antoinette. We find the taste of it for modernity in this background called "big blue" dotted with gold dots that could symbolize a starry sky.
This Sèvres blue, a characteristic color of the royal manufacture, is adorned in its center by a lovely bouquet of flowers that recalls Queen Marie-Antoinette's taste for nature and the country life of the hamlet she had built in Versailles.
The border of the cup and saucer represents a delicate frieze alternating with ribbon and myrtles as well as a drawing of a sunflower flower stylized in blood. The queen particularly cherished this cup and will donate it to her lady-in-waiting as a sign of deep affection.
The original of this cup is today at the Carnavalet museum in Paris.
